02 SEpT 2010

Hi people

I just read this on the net and thought it might come in handy.

I always believe in a little power nap in the afternoon but never find it to be appropriate at work.

but it seems to be more acceptable now than ever...but i find people napping at their desk to be really gross though.

So here's the do and don'ts of power napping at work.. cheers enjoy!!

Do'S And Don'Ts Of Dozing
Napping at work has become acceptable at some companies. Yet pulling off a "productivity nap" at the office isn't easy. Here are suggestions from sleep scientist Dr. Sara Mednick, author of Take a Nap! Change Your Life.

1. Make time and space

Twenty to 30 minutes is all you need to reap the rewards of midday slumber. The best time is the early afternoon when your body is tired -- so consider reserving the second half of your lunch break for shut-eye. If your employer doesn't have a nap room, a yoga mat beats a bathroom stall, though the most comfortable option may be a parked car.

2. Set the proper conditions

In the dark our brains produce more of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin, so close the blinds, turn off the lights, and consider using a sleeping mask. Keep the temperature on the warmer side. If you must nap sitting up, use a travel pillow to avoid the dreaded "nap nod." And don't forget to turn off your cell phone.

3. Careful with the chemicals

Avoid caffeine for a few hours before a nap. The same goes for nicotine, diet pills, and antidepressants. Although alcohol makes it easier to nod off during the day, it interferes with sleep and should also be avoided. Refined sugars and carbs may keep you up, but meat, dairy, and some nuts have tryptophan, which our bodies break down into melatonin

HoW tO bE tHe OnE wHO geTS tHe PrOMotIoN!

Don't Wait for a reward
The world is full of people dilligently producing in some quiet corner. They will not be promoted!
Demostrate you can do higher-level work.

Prepare a colleague to take over your Job
Companies like to hire from the Outside, because promoting from within creates two staffing changes instead of one. Groom a successor

Don't make yourself indispensable
Contrary to conventional wisdom, its unwise to perform in such a way that your bosses feel you must keep doing your current job.

Timing is as important as Talent
If you can make yourself available for a big job at an opportune moment, you will have an advantage over others who seek the same assignment.

Gather information about your company's plans.
Tap all your internal company channels to learn about opportunities for advancement. Example: If you know there will be a foreign office opening in six months, you can position yourself for the job.

Praise your boss to senior management.
Never go over your boss's head, except in the form of praise. Tell senior managers, how much you and your supervisor learned and accomplished at that trade show, seminar...

Don't turn down offers.
Early in your careers, if you company offers you a new position, take it. There is an unwritten rule that if you turn down a promotion once, you will not get another offer.

Be Willing to move.
Happily ensconced in where you are? Be prepared to move to *Lower dusty Nowhere*. You can't move up inside an organisation if you are not willing to relocate.

Attach youself to a superstar.
Superstar can feed plum assignments to their proteges and give them visibility and access.

Teach yourself new skills
Anticipate your company's needs and prepare yourself by learning new tricks. For instance, if you work in HR and you see layoffs coming, bone up n downsizing techniques.

PaSsing of a GEneRation

I writing this in memory of my parents, my dad who passed since 1995 amazingly to me seems a little like yesterday and mother who god rest her soul went peacefully on 30 May 2009. So it seems that i am officially an orphan?!

It has come full circle, one year soon!

I started this post on the 16 June 2009, and completed this on 13th May 2010!

Complete, means after nearly a year i still do not have anything else to add to it and completing it just like the way i started it ! :)

Life is such! a year passed and you are older but never wiser and never having more to say than what you have already said.

:)
cheers to old age!

LoVingkiNdNess - Lessons in Metta

Karaniya Metta Sutta (Sn 1.8)
(combines both the interpersonal and radiant aspects of canonical expressions of metta)

This is what should be done

By one who is skilled in goodness,

And who knows the path of peace:...

Wishing: In gladness and in safety,

May all beings be at ease.

Whatever living beings there may be;

Whether they are weak or strong, omitting none,

The great or the mighty,medium, short or small,

The seen and the unseen,

Those living near and far away,

Those born and to-be-born —

May all beings be at ease!

Let none deceive another,

Or despise any being in any state.

Let none through anger or ill-will

Wish harm upon another.

Even as a mother protects with her life

Her child, her only child,

So with a boundless heart

Should one cherish all living beings;

Radiating kindness over the entire world

Spreading upwards to the skies,

And downwards to the depths;

Outwards and unbounded,

Freed from hatred and ill-will.

Whether standing or walking, seated or lying down

Free from drowsiness,

One should sustain this recollection.

This is said to be the sublime abiding....

=============================================

Basic radiating formula - Radiating metta in six directions:
He abides, having suffused with a mind of loving-kindnessone direction of the world,

likewise the second, likewise the third, likewise the fourth,and so above, below, around

and everywhere, and to all as to himself; he abides suffusing the entire universe with loving-kindness, with a mind grown great, lofty, boundless and free from enmity and ill will

=============================================

Basic intention and verse—Cunda Kammaraputta Sutta
Buddha explains that mental or intentional purity (manasā soceyyaṃ) is threefold: non-greed, non-ill-will and non-delusion. Regarding the manifestation of non-ill-will the discourse describes a virtuous person in the following manner:

He bears no ill will and is not corrupt in the resolves of his heart. [He thinks,]

'May these beings be free from animosity,free from oppression, free from trouble, and may they look after themselves with ease!'
